Favorite dolls
I want to talk about some of my favorite dolls in my collection!
I already mentioned Zooey Electra in my first post, but I've got more to say about her of course. She is from the Rainbow High brand by MGA, in the Shadow High series two line. Her color scheme is a beautiful seafoam, which lends to her space/alien design. Her hair comes styled with three bantu knots, and tinsel is interspersed throughout. She wears a white puffer jacket with patches, reminiscent of an astronaut's suit, over a cropped graphic t-shirt. She has a teal pleather skirt with silver clips, and she wears sparkly stockings under heels with tiny outlet cords for bows that match her cord-like earrings.
I love Zooey's vibe so much. I know a large part of that are the references to Novi Stars, which is another doll line I love, released from 2012-2014. One of her jacket patches mentions the name, as well as her t-shirt, which features the Novi Stars character "Mimi Merize." Above Zooey's eyebrows are two white rings, which the Novi Stars dolls all have. As a fan, I can only hope that these nods to the line are a hint that they'll be getting reproductions soon! MGA has been having success with reproductions of their Bratz line recently, as has Mattel with their Monster High and My Scene reproductions.
Speaking of Novi Stars, no surprise the next doll on my list is Tula Toned! I found this cutie on Ebay for a not too outrageous price (as is often the case with these girls). She was out of box, but in great condition with all of her items included, like her navy/black dress and pet alien "Vortex." I love Tula! Each of the Novi Stars has a gimmick, and hers is that her legs are like a lava lamp-- filled with multi-colored goo. My only gripe is that this gimmick is very similar to Una Verse's, another Novi Star that I have in my jumble. Her legs are also filled with liquid, but it is more glittery. Nevertheless, Tula Toned is so lovely and she looks great on my shelf.
The next doll that is one of my favorites is Monster High generation 3 Twyla, from the Fearbook line. I was so excited when I saw her stock photos before her release. I liked her Creepover doll, but I typically avoid dolls with bangs, so I didn't have a G3 Twyla in my collection just yet. I was glad I waited! Fearbook Twyla was worth it. She has a purple and teal color scheme. Her wavy hair is pulled back from her face with two black barrettes. Her short purple dress is accented with black stripes and lacy ruffles, and a Peter Pan collar tied with a black bow. She has cute teal heals that draw your eye to the wispy shadows that crawl up her calves.
Twyla's background lore is that she is the daughter of the Boogeyman. Her style has not changed too much from her generation 1 counterpart, but generation 3 adds more to her character. She is Monster High's first canonically autistic character. In the webisodes online it is said outright and talked about, which I think is amazing representation that has been sorely missed. While positive representations of mental health and disabilities are still few, especially in children's media, Twyla's character is a great step in the right direction.
The last doll on my list is Pinkie Cooper from the Runway series. Pinkie Cooper and the Jet Set Pets were only released in the latter half of 2013. I remember seeing them in the toy aisle when I was younger and I thought they looked so interesting. The characters in this doll line are anthropomorphic dogs, modeled after cocker spaniels. They have chic fashions, and a big aspect of their brand is travel and glamour. I have two Pinkie Cooper dolls currently, the original Runway Pinkie, and London Pinkie from the Travel collection. I honestly had trouble deciding which of the two I like more, but I finally landed on Runway Pinkie. While London has more accessories, I prefer Runway's overall look. I find it to be very classic. Her dress is simple with a faux rhinestone collar, sleeveless leopard print top, and sparkly skirt. She has cute pink heels with molded flowers. Something about these dolls is just so delicate and dainty, I love it!
I hope you enjoyed this not at all exhaustive list of my favorite dolls in my collection! Here are some honorable mentions: Disney ily 4Ever's inspired by Belle doll, Licca-chan LD-10, Bratz IndepenDance Day Cloe, Monster High G3 Jinafire, and Disney Star Darlings Sage.
Anyway! I finished reading The Spirit Bares Its Teeth, so maybe I'll write a book review soon. It's been probably like ten years or more since I wrote one, so hopefully it won't be too bad.
